†Colt AR15 rifle info and review

The Colt AR15 started its life in the US Military. Built by ArmaLite, the rights of the AR15 design were sold to Coltís Manufacturing LLC due to financial problems faced by the company. The Colt AR15 rifle is primarily manufactured by Colt although several other companies do make various modified versions under different names and designations.

The Colt AR-15 is basically a small-grade assault rifle supplied to the US armed forces. This Colt is also sold to other law-enforcement agencies and civilians, and is increasingly liked by the general public due to its butch looks and convenient features. This military pedigree rifle is a favorite with hunters, that hunt smaller animals like coyotes, as well as youngsters that wanted to experience how guys in the military handle these weapons. Its ancestor, the AR16 was never put into production.

This Colt has a rotating lock bolt that is actuated by a system of direct impingement gas operation or the long/short stroke piston operation. This weapon is slightly costly as compared to other rifles, and prices have been on the rise thanks to discussions on banning assault weapons by the US Government.

Mentioned below is important information and review of the Colt AR15 rifle.

Looks

The Colt AR15 looks its part as an assault rifle especially when outfitted with various accessories such as rifle scopes, forward grips, bipods, etc. The rifle is made with aircraft grade aluminum alloys as well as synthetic materials. The stock design is straight-inline, which is unlike others that require a fulcrum, which in turn reduces muzzle climb. The AR15 is available in different variants including the AR 15 A2, which is supplied to law enforcement agencies as well as civilians.

Dimensions

The Colt AR15 is a semi-automatic rifle with an overall length of 39 inches or 99 centimeters. The standard barrel length is 20 inches or 51 centimeters although it can be modified to between 6.5 inches to 24 inches. It weighs in at around 8 pounds or 3.63 kilograms when empty.

Technical Specifications

The Colt AR15 is a .223 bore rifle that fires high-velocity rounds of .223/5.56 x 45 mm. Nevertheless, this rifle can be easily adapted to fire various types of rounds such as the .50 Beowulf, 6.5 mm Grendel, 6.8 mm Remington SPC, etc. However, care should be taken to ensure the chosen rounds are compatible for the specific rifle.

Magazines

The standard .223 caliber Colt AR 15 usually has either a 1 in 7 twist or 1 in 9 twist. This Colt can handle low capacity magazines that hold 5 to 10 rounds, standard magazines that hold 20 to 30 rounds in a staggered arrangement, and even box magazines that hold 40 to 45 rounds. Some accessory manufacturers also offer high capacity magazines that hold between 60 to 100 rounds in staggered column arrangement.

The magazines themselves are made out of steel, aluminum, or even special plastics. The pistol grip is made of synthetic materials that can handle rough use without splintering or swelling. The AR 15 has an effective range of 400 meters or 547 yards and a muzzle velocity of 975 meters per second or 3,200 feet per second.

Sights

The Colt AR15 features iron sights with the front sight being adjustable for elevation and the rear being adjustable for windage and elevation for some models. A host of options are available including optical aiming sights that can replace the original sights or latch on to them.

The direct gas impingement option uses gas from the barrel and guides it to the bolt carrier. The bolt as well as the bolt carrier together makes the piston, which expands when gas enters the cavity in the bolt carrier. The gas system is used to unlock the bolt when the projectile has left the barrel.

Civilian models only have the semi-automatic option for firing rounds and one can choose either the safe or semi-automatic option while firing rounds.

The Colt AR15 is certainly a favorite with war veterans, sports enthusiasts, and the younger generation for a variety of reasons. This rifle is slightly costly to purchase, but offers a high degree of accuracy and reliability. It is easy to assemble and dissemble and is offered with a wide range of accessories and upgrades.

The Colt AR15 rifle is used for law enforcement, personal protection, hunting, and target shooting and is one of the favorite rifles of all times for proud American owners.
